Optional Dance for Gymnasts
(geared toward optional gymnasts level 6-10)
This class will use ballet and jazz to improve the dance skills of optional gymnasts.
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. This class will focus on building strong technical foundations that will carry students through any dance style they choose to pursue. At all levels terminology, posture and alignment, and body awareness will be taught and reinforced, along with skills that expand their extension, flexibly , and strength. In this class, students will gain a more thorough understanding of movement that will allow them to progress more quickly in other dance styles, as well as prepare them for pointe work if they choose to pursue ballet further. While Jazz technique is based in ballet, it adds it’s own elements of angled lines, isolations, contractions, and contrasts. Students will learn both classical and contemporary jazz technique as they cultivate flexibility, expression, and coordination. The class will begin with a stretching and strengthening routine to fast and funky music and then will move across the floor in combinations and choreography.
